AWS Saving Plans

🌟 AWS Saving Plans: Your First Step in FinOps! 🌟 In just 𝟲 𝗺𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗵𝘀, I covered 80% of AWS compute resources by leveraging the flexibility of 𝗔𝗪𝗦 𝗦𝗮𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝗻𝘀, unlocking significant cost savings. While deeper savings are possible with architectural changes like serverless or more precise reservations, 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗸𝗲𝘆—especially for companies with hybrid model. Saving Plans deliver 𝗶𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁 with up to 𝟰𝟱–𝟲𝟬% 𝗰𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗿𝗲𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 and all of that with flexibility ! ✅ Choose payment options (no upfront, partial, or full upfront). ✅ Pick durations of 1 or 3 years. ✅ Layer multiple reservations to match evolving needs. ⚡ 𝗘𝘀𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗽: Secure finance approval for upfront payments. Pro tip: 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝘂𝗽𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗻𝘁 is often enough—full upfront typically saves only 1–2% more. This is one of the 𝘀𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗺𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗳𝘂𝗹 𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗽𝘀 for any FinOps practitioner and all it requires is an access to the AWS Billing and Cost Management console. 👉 Curious about the real saving rates? AWS Cost Anomaly Alert!

🚨 AWS Cost Anomaly Alert! 🚨 As a FinOps practitioner, I’ve seen my share of budget surprises, but this one deserves its own post. Imagine this: everything is running smoothly in our AWS environment until… 💸💸💸 A $10K/month anomaly starts brewing. What caused it? A tiny oversight—we forgot to add an S3 endpoint to a VPC. What should’ve been free traffic turned into expensive cross-regional charges. 🤦‍♂️ Thankfully, AWS Cost Anomaly Detection flagged it (after 5 days...), and we patched the issue within 24 hours, avoiding a costly mistake. 💸 💡 FinOps Tip: Use AWS Cost Explorer and filter by Usage Type Dimension to quickly trace network costs. Lesson learned: Don’t skip AWS cost anomaly emails! They can save your budget. 📬

Simplifying Static Website Hosting on AWS

⛅ Simplifying Static Website Hosting on AWS🌐 Introducing a straightforward approach to hosting a static website on AWS, offering more flexibility than Amplify! 🔗 Repository: https://lnkd.in/exnY3uHP This project streamlines the process by automating the AWS setup with Terraform 🛠️. It takes care of most of the heavy lifting, with just two prerequisites: 1️⃣ Create a public certificate. 2️⃣ Register a domain name. (For detailed instructions on these steps, check out the AWS guide here https://lnkd.in/e2HgVjD3) Once these steps are completed, you’re all set to effortlessly deploy your static website. I’ll also be benchmarking the hosting costs after the release to provide a clear breakdown of the financial side. The first version of the website is coming next week—stay tuned! 🚀 Feedback and suggestions are always welcome—I’d love to hear your thoughts!

How to integrate AWS cloudtrail with snowflake ?

📚 While studying Snowflake, I took the opportunity to test how to automate the ingestion of security logs into a cloud data platform. I built a solution integrating AWS, Terraform, and Snowflake for security log data ingestion. Using Terraform for IAC, I automated the process of ingesting AWS CloudTrail logs into Snowflake. This project enhances the standard Snowflake tutorial by introducing automated processes through IAC for both Snowflake and AWS. For the curious, explore the project here: https://github.com/Heavyshield/cloudtrail-snowflake-ingestion.

I want my minecraft server !

🎉 Hey everyone! I’ve been working on a fun little project: Hosting a Minecraft server on AWS with fully automated deployment using Terraform! 🎮☁️ Inspired by an AWS blog, I took the idea further by optimizing costs and automating the process. Now you can host your own server for as little as $0.75/month—perfect for casual gaming with friends! 💡 Why did I create this? Minecraft hosting can be pricey—most services start around $10/month for limited performance. For casual players, that feels like overkill! With AWS and Terraform, I wanted to build a cheap, flexible, and easy-to-manage alternative that fits a gamer’s budget. 💻 What’s included? • Automated setup of all AWS resources (VPC, EC2, Security Groups, etc.) • A Minecraft server running on an EC2 t4g.small instance • Instructions for deployment, maintenance, and cost-saving tips 📉 The Costs: 1️⃣ Always-on server: ~$17/month 2️⃣ Casual gaming (40 hours/month): ~$4/month 3️⃣ Minimal cost (no Elastic IP): ~$0.75/month Check it out on GitHub 👉 https://lnkd.in/ejhbPVBf
